What is the Hijri calendar?
The Hijri (Islamic) calendar is a lunar calendar that starts from the Prophet Muhammad's migration (Hijra) from Makkah to Madinah in 622 CE. Each month has 29 or 30 days, so a Hijri year has 354 or 355 days — about 11 days shorter than a Gregorian year. That is why Ramadan and the two Eids move earlier every year.
Umm al-Qura: the official calendar of Saudi Arabia
Saudi Arabia uses the Umm al-Qura calendar for official documents, Iqama and ID expiry dates, contracts and government services. This tool uses the same calendar, so the date you see matches the Hijri date used in Saudi government systems such as Absher.
