How to calculate zakat in Pakistan

  • Add up your cash, bank savings, gold, silver and business stock.
  • Subtract debts that are due now.
  • If the total is at or above the nisab and you have held it for one lunar year, pay 2.5% as zakat.

Example: on Rs 100,000 of zakatable wealth (above nisab) zakat is Rs 2,500. On Rs 1,000,000 it is Rs 25,000.

Nisab of zakat in Pakistan

The nisab is 52.5 tola (612.36 g) of silver or 7.5 tola (87.48 g) of gold. If you own only gold, the gold nisab applies; for cash or mixed assets many scholars recommend the silver nisab, which benefits more people in need.

Bank zakat deduction

Before Ramadan each year the government announces a nisab for savings and profit-and-loss accounts, and banks deduct zakat automatically above it. For 1447 AH (2026) it was set at Rs 503,529. You can file a CZ-50 declaration with your bank to pay zakat yourself instead.
