How is end of service calculated in Saudi Arabia?
Under Article 84 of the Saudi Labor Law, an employee receives an end of service award based on their last wage:
- Half a month's wage for each of the first five years of service.
- One full month's wage for each year after the first five.
- Parts of a year are calculated proportionally.
Example: an employee earning SAR 6,000 who worked 7 years receives (3,000 × 5) + (6,000 × 2) = SAR 27,000.
End of service after resignation (Article 85)
- Less than 2 years: no end of service award.
- 2 to less than 5 years: one third of the award.
- 5 to less than 10 years: two thirds of the award.
- 10 years or more: the full award.
In the example above, resigning after 7 years gives two thirds: SAR 18,000.
When does a resigning employee get the full amount?
Under Article 87, the full award is paid if the employee leaves due to force majeure, or if a female employee ends her contract within six months of marriage or three months of giving birth.
Which wage is used?
The award is based on the last actual wage, which usually includes basic salary plus fixed allowances such as housing and transport. You can compare the result with the official calculator on Qiwa.
